Description
Our super volunteers have been working to revamp the IAC program after losing our Classroom Attendant last year who was compensated through a Senior Workforce Program Grant through the state, and not being able to find a replacement. But there's a silver lining!!!

New Hours!

Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 9am-12pm.

We received feedback from many that they could not come during our weekly hours but would love a chance to come on a Saturday. For now while our open hours depend fully on our busy volunteers, we're trying Saturdays!!

New Activities!

Activity Stations - revamped

We have revamped our offerings, thanks to our incredible volunteers and support from local educators, Sponsors and a grant from the TN Arts Commission.

3 Art-making stations (prompts rotate regularly)

    - NEW Prompts have been created and organized by LCHS Art Department head and Art Interns – we are so thankful to have this partnership!! Jennie and her interns have been incredibly instrumental since our initial IAC launch more than 3 years ago.

1 Tactile Station (hands-on activity: pearler beads, jewelry making, junk stuff art, playdough, a board game, etc.)

1 Sketch & Stream Station for Guided Art Creations

   - We now have a TV mounted on the wall and a table designated for our Art Education Video Outreach, made possible by a grant from the TN Arts Commission.

   - Art Educator, Jennie Roles-Walter, has created 13 lessons with video tutorials and an outline for teachers/parents to help lead the process. The outline includes the art video’s objective, assessment, key points, guided practice, independent practice, extension activity, and more—including encouragement notes.

   - We have some 11x14 starter line sheets printed on heavy weight paper which are perfect for several mediums, available for $3 each for any patrons that are interested. We also offer regular 8x10 paper sheets at no cost.

   - The Classroom Attendant will help patrons navigate our Art Ed Channel on the TV.

STEM Bags

   - We have had much feedback from the community about offerings for kids on the autism spectrum… Our volunteers have kept this close to heart, brainstorming ideas and working towards a viable offering.

   - These sensory, STEM bags are currently being prepared by Mrs. Hyter, LCHS Special Education teacher, and her students. They will be available for “check-out” during IAC hours – simply ask our classroom attendant for a bag! These will be for check-out to ensure any consumable supplies are replenished after use, so that the next patron has the same full experience.

   - We’ll have 5 STEM sensory bags available for check-out very soon! These activities will be refreshed frequently.

Our Independent Art Classroom was first launched in 2022 thanks to support from the TN Arts Commission! We are fortunate to have continued local support from Bank of Lincoln County and Redstone Federal Credit Union to keep these offerings open to the community.
