The Saturday Drawing Room
Announcing a first-of-its-kind event to be held at the FLC Center this May! THE DRAWING ROOM: A Figure Drawing Forum is an evening of art, music, and food designed to bring together artists, students of art, aspiring artists, FLC Arts members, and friends.
We will meet in the upstairs gallery to draw a female model dressed in period clothing, seated in context, in front of a backdrop that recreates a manor house drawing room. Bob and Bartie Scott will provide musical accompaniment.

STUDIO ARRANGEMENT
Easels, boards, paper, and pencils will be supplied, but you are welcome to bring your own easel and materials if you wish (please do not exceed a footprint of approximately 3’ wide). If you want to add color, consider bringing supplies well-suited to a limited workspace. Easel space is based on 20 first-come, first-served positions: 2 rows of 10, arranged in an arc around the subject. The lighting will be gallery lighting in the round, with local directed light as required on the subject. Chairs are available if you prefer to sit. We will offer a long study window so that you have adequate time to fully develop your ideas. The model will assume the same pose each time, with breaks at her own discretion.
Let Mark know if you can bring your own easel for this event: [email protected]
IS THIS FOR ME?
Short answer: yes! This event is open to the public and is primarily a forum for artists who like to draw from life. It is not a lesson - more an opportunity to draw from life in a staged environment and a chance to enjoy friends, other artists, music and food. However, even if you don’t feel very confident in drawing, you’re still very welcome to join us. You will benefit from seeing how artists work in a studio from a model using a range of techniques and methods. I can also help out by comment and demonstration at individual stations, and I will have some tips for beginning and intermediate artists.
SUPPORT YOUR FLC ARTS CENTER
I hope this fundraiser will lay a foundation for future life study drawing sessions. Finding an event like this in Fayetteville has previously been difficult, but now, with new strong leadership at FLC Arts, energetic first-class devoted instructors, and dedicated volunteers, you don’t have to travel out of town to experience an opportunity like this.
